Upping the Gift Count: A Very Easy Way to Help

By Dr. Jeff Mirus ( bio - articles - email ) | Feb 16, 2015

In February of last year, CatholicCulture.org received a total of 607 individual donations. Of these, 288 had come in by today’s date, February 16th. But as it turned out, the sum total of all of these gifts left us about $10,000 short of our budget.

This year things are looking a little better. We already have 324 gifts in hand, and we are running about $5,000 ahead of 2014 for February income as of today. So with increased participation for the rest of the month, I believe we can end February in the black.

What I’d like to emphasize here is participation. I don’t want to state a specific financial goal this month, or make anyone worry about our not meeting that magic number. Instead, I am encouraging everyone to think about simply adding to the total number of gifts we receive.

I’ve set 700 as a reasonable goal. No specific amount is required. I’d like people to feel they are an important part of what we do simply by giving whatever they can afford. Our system will accept gifts in any amount from $5.00 on up. I ask all those reading these words to consider making the gift, huge or medium or tiny, that best suits your budget.

Let’s work together to shoot for 700 gifts. Let’s see what a little solidarity can do, without worrying about the amounts!

Our “Action Alert” bar, which is positioned along the top of our pages (just under the blue site heading and menu), will appear from time to time, every few pages, as you browse the site. Without blocking what you are doing, it will tell you how close we are to the goal of 700 gifts.

You can make your gift in any amount now to add to our February gift count. The smallest gift adds one to the count, just like the biggest.
