Crowdfunding can change lives

By Thomas V. Mirus ( bio - articles - email ) | Jul 11, 2014 | In On the Good

A professor at Christendom College has started an Indiegogo campaign to raise money to pay for psychological counseling for students who cannot afford it. The campaign, which has reached a third of its monetary goal with 34 days remaining, will provide a $1,500 course of treatment for two Christendom students in need.

While this is in itself a worthy cause, it also serves as an excellent example of the power of crowdfunding to do good within small communities. There are any number of small-scale projects that can be started, and problems that can be solved, by one person in a position to do some good, along with just a little financial support.

Good to know about. Psych illnesses are real and cannot be cured by prayer alone any more than can physical illnesses. God gave us lots of people with good minds who can help us carry the cross of mental illness. Prayer and counseling or medication, etc, need not be in competition here.
