THE book for Advent this year

By Phil Lawler ( bio - articles - email ) | Nov 14, 2012

Maybe you’ve already grasped the significance of today’s CWN headline story. But just in case, let me spell it out:

  • Pope Benedict’s new book, The Infancy Narratives, will be available November 21.
  • Advent begins December 2.

So if you want to prepare to celebrate the Incarnation by reading the Holy Father’s reflections on the Infant Jesus—as Frank Sheed put it, “true God and true baby”—allow 10 days for delivery and the timing is perfect.

I wonder whether Cardinal McCarrick used ecclesial discernment to justify his actions for many years. Moreover, whether those who protected him used the same type of discernment; just wondering.

I just pre ordered it. I plan on reading this along with St. Bernards sermons for Advent and Christmas. I figure the Holy Father's scholarly approach can be tempered by the beautiful allegory and prose of St. Bernard writing on the same mystery--the Incarnation.
