OTG: Catholica Summer Program in Rome: Highly recommended for young men
Joe Long contacted me over the weekend to let me know about the new Summer Program he is running in Rome for young men aged 14 to 18. Joe is a good friend of one of my sons and a graduate of Christendom College (the four-year Catholic liberal arts college I helped to establish way back in 1977). He also holds a MA from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, and he founded his own tour guide company, ProRome Tours.
I say all this about Joe because if you send your sons to his Catholica Summer Program, it means they will be in good hands. The 2017 program runs from June 12th through July 8th. The goal of the program is to help in “forming young men into confident Catholic gentlemen.” Home base is a campus in the heart of Rome, with daily Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica. Those enrolled in the program study Latin, Apologetics and Church history each morning, and then they visit some of the historic places they’ve studied.
Catholica offers daily prayer and spiritual direction side by side with hiking and whitewater rafting. Attendees tour Rome on motor bikes (Vespas), square off against a local Roman soccer team, and enjoy overnight trips to beautiful sites that have played an important role in Catholic history, such as Assisi. The faculty is outstanding, the priests deeply committed, and guest lecturers include dynamic personalities such as the indomitable Cardinal George Pell.
The price for the Catholica Summer Program is $5,995, which covers absolutely everything except air fare. The deadline for registration and deposits is January 13th, and there is a $500 discount for paying in full by that date. For families with more than one son in the program’s age group, a multi-son discount is available. Complete information is available through the links below:
