No endorsement-- thank goodness!

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Jul 02, 2003

Take a careful look at the public statement released by Cardinal Law after the announcement that Bishop O'Malley would become is successor in Boston.

Notice anything missing? The cardinal never indicates that he endorses the archbishop-elect.

And that's probably just as well. Cardinal Law is the only American prelate on the Vatican Congregation for Bishops; it's not unreasonable to assume that he had some say in the O'Malley selection. But right now, in Boston, an endorsement by Cardinal Law would be about as helpful as an endorsement by the New York Yankees.
