Using the Law

By Phil Lawler ( bio - articles - email ) | Apr 07, 2003

In New Hampshire, a man was arrested for blocking the sidewalk in a protest outside the Manchester cathedral of Bishop John McCormack. It's a misdemeanor charge; no big deal. Except that...

Depending on the circumstances, that man might have been accused of violated the federal FACE (Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances) bill, which could result in 2 years behind bars. When FACE was being pushed through Congress by pro-abortion forces, a few prescient pro-lifers succeeded in amending the bill, so that it protects access not only to abortion clinics but also to churches.

An odd combination? Certainly; it's an odd piece of legislation. But it's on the books, and Catholics shouldn't forget that.
