eNewsletter Subject: Happiness amid controversy

Controversies in the Church continue to arise. Some are mere differences in opinion or emphasis; others are serious conflicts over the need for authentic renewal.

Phil Lawler highlighted two such disagreements recently. In Cardinal Burke's 'unhelpful' suggestion, Phil notices again how quickly an honest evaluation of Islam is decried by those who want a rosier picture to prevail.

Phil also takes (partial) issue with Bishop Daniel Flores' comments relating aspects of the immigration problem to the core life issues: Abortion and deportation: not morally equivalent. (Of course this does not mean that deportation can never be immoral.)

In another brief comment, Phil has found something very revealing in a recent interview with former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi: Pelosi and Pelosi's God. One of the great scandals of our time is the frequency with which nominal Catholics lead the way in doing evil.
