eNewsletter Subject: Catholic Accountability
I see an important and very welcome theme of accountability in recent Catholic news. I mean accountability within the Church.
Some of this comes from the Pope himself, some from bishops who understand the fraternal correction required by collegiality. Consider these three news stories:
- Vatican abuse commission member: bishops must be held accountable
- Pope meets privately with ousted 'bling bishop'
- Archbishop Chaput weighs in on German bishops' stance on Communion for remarried
I also notice that potential correctives to Cardinal Kasper's thesis on pastoral care of the divorced and remarried continue to be issued (I've discussed this in a previous message). For example, theologian Juan José Perez Soba has written this Critique of Cardinal Kasper's Speech on Marriage....
