In this Year of Faith, devoted to a new evangelization, it makes sense to ask questions about our efforts. This week, Phil Lawler raised one such question: Does your parish really welcome potential converts? Here's a test.
It also makes sense to survey good spiritual news. Though a bit on the tongue-in-cheek side of things, Phil offers some news that is really very good concerning a divorce-prevention measure that lasts (at least) two generations!
I chip in with a true story of a remarkably generous outpouring of love: Adoption not Abortion: A Down Syndrome Miracle. This has been widely reported elsewhere, too.
My own opinion is that we've reached a tipping point for renewal in the United States, and perhaps for the Church generally in the West. But problems remain, especially in major Catholic universities; see my latest On the Culture essay, Why Sociologists Can’t Define the Catholic Tradition....
