eNewsletter Subject: The World Needs Faith!
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a controversial article (The End of Pro-Life Politics) which occasioned a great deal of discussion and debate. That's a good thing, and as a result, I've taken up several misunderstandings in To Emphasize Politics or Not: The Sequel.
At the same time, I noticed that Pope Benedict XVI touched this month on a number of themes that are highly relevant to a broad discussion of the role of Faith and Christians in the world. Consider these homilies and addresses:
- Opening Up to God Does Not Detach Us from the World: This address, on the occasion of the opening of the Courtyard of the Gentiles on November 16th, demonstrates the necessity of Faith even to this world.
- What Makes the Church Catholic Is that Christ Embraces All Humanity in His Saving Mission: This homily on the basic nature of being Catholic was given at the consistory creating six new cardinals on November 24th.
- The Kingdom of God Is Love that Serves, Not Worldly Power: This was the Pope's homily for the Solemnity of Christ the King on November 25th, highlighting the fundamentally apolitical character of the Kingdom of God.
Our Catholic mission depends on completing this match! I am asking everyone who has not yet done so to contribute something toward it over the next three days....
