eNewsletter Subject: The Battle for the LCWR

The reform of the Leadership Council of Women Religious—if it proves possible—is dear to the heart of CatholicCulture.org and of Catholic culture itself. It would be a very significant step in the authentic renewal of female religious life in the United States.

Indeed, it would be the first significant step at turning back the false renewal—really a collapse and dissolution of the Faith—which afflicted women religious more than any other group in the Church beginning in the 1960s. And the battle has been joined: See Phil Lawler's latest commentary in On the News: Bishop Blair pounds the facts; LCWR pounds the table.

Over on the opposite side, I take a look at the recent remarks of Bishop Bernard Fellay of the Society of St. Pius X on potential reunion with Rome. I have some quibbles, but on the whole I think Bishop Fellay is trying hard to bring the Society back intact: Bishop Fellay’s Rhetoric.

I was also struck recently by the thesis of a University of Virginia psychologist whose studies show liberals operate with only half of the moral compass of conservatives. This is intriguing and thought-provoking. I explain in One-Eyed Liberals....
