AP airs criticisms of beatification for John Paul II
CWN - April 13, 2011
Looking ahead to the beatification of Pope John Paul II, an AP story rehearses the various questions that have been raised by critics: about the late Pontiff's handling of the sex-abuse scandal and about the speed of the beatification process.
"John Paul's holiness and accomplishments aren't much in dispute," the AP story concedes. Since his holiness is what the beatification celebrates, and his accomplishments are secondary, the article might have ended there rather than rehearsing the familiar criticisms.
