Instruction on Summorum Pontificum coming after Easter?

April 05, 2011

A long-awaited Vatican Instruction clarifying some questions about Summorum Pontificum will appear soon after Easter, according to Rome’s leading Vatican journalist.

Andrea Tornielli, who recently took a new post with La Stampa, has predicted that the new document, on the implementation of the Pope’s initiative to broaden use of the traditional Latin Mass, will be made public shortly after Easter. The Vatican has not made any recent announcement about the document, but Tornielli’s enviable record of accurate predictions gives his story considerable currency.

Tornielli has said that the Instruction will strengthen the force of the motu proprio, encouraging seminaries to train future priests to use the traditional liturgy and clarifying that any “stable group”—not merely a group already in existence—should be ensured access to the “extraordinary form.”
