Vatican pulls support from international journalists' group
CWN - April 04, 2011
The Vatican has withdrawn its recognition from an international group of Catholic journalists, and directed that the group should remove the word "Catholic" from its name.
Cardinal Stanislaw Rylko, the president of the Pontifical Council for the Laity, has called for change in the Union Catholic International de la Presse (UCIP). The Vatican has expressed concerns about the finances and management of the group, and Cardinal Rylko said that Church leaders felt compelled to intervene.
Joseph Chittilappilly, the executive secretary of UCIP, said that the group will respond to the Vatican's concerns.
