Father Gary Mecure, a priest permanently suspended by the Diocese of Albany in August amid child sex-abuse allegations, has been indicted on child rape charges by a Massachusetts grand jury. According to a lawsuit filed in May, Bishop Howard Hubbard was informed in 1994 of a homosexual relationship involving Mecure; the other man in the relationship reportedly showed Bishop Hubbard graphic photographs of a man whose image resembled Mecure. A diocese spokesman said the relationship was a ‘consensual adult relationship,’ and thus Father Mecure remained in parish ministry until 2008.
