Temporary legal victory for traditional marriage in California
CWN - March 24, 2011
In a temporary victory for supporters of Proposition 8-- the 2008 California ballot measure that recognized marriage as the union of a man and a woman-- the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals has rejected a request to compel the state to resume the practice of same-sex marriage while the court deliberates on the measure’s constitutionality.
Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and current Gov. Jerry Brown, both of whom are Catholic, have refused to defend Proposition 8 in court, much as President Barack Obama’s administration is refusing to defend the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act.
