Religious order sues Boston archdiocese over pension funds

The Daughters of St. Paul, a religious order involved in media apostolates, has filed suit against the Boston archdiocese, seeking to protect the pensions of the apostolates' lay employees.
The order has reportedly been trying since 2005 to withdraw its employees' pension funds from a central archdiocesan account. That account was fully funded in 2008, but is now only 83% funded, and archdiocesan employees are facing possible cuts in their pension rewards.
The Daughters of St. Paul ordinarily enjoy a strong and friendly relationship with the archdiocese. Their lawyer described the Daughters as "just as unhappy as they can be" about the necessity of legal action. The order and the archdiocese hope to resolve their dispute by mediation.
