Madrid college students storm Catholic chapel, utter blasphemies

March 15, 2011

Some 50 college-age students stormed a chapel at Spain’s leading public university on March 10.

“A group of 50 young people, the majority girls, entered disrespectfully the chapel of the Somosaguas campus of Madrid's Complutense University, shouting slogans through a megaphone,” the Archdiocese of Madrid said in a statement. “Once inside, they surrounded the altar” and read a manifesto.

“After reading the manifesto, some of the girls took off their clothes from the waist up and began to sing offensive rhymes and slogans against the Church, the Holy Father, and the Christian faith, including blasphemies.”

“These actions are an attack on freedom of worship and a profanation of a sacred place, which entails canonical punishments in the case of those who are baptized and committed them,” the statement added.

As actual adults, most of them will suffer the shame of this juvenile behavior and will beg our Lord's forgiveness. Pray for their souls - and the souls of those who have lead them astray! A good penance would be daily prayer for those who are persecuted for their courageous defense of the faith.

And I suppose, Cornelius, that the Iraqi Catholics who pray so fervently in Syria (see story) and suffer so much do so on their account...and ours as well.

Appalling, but I'm not really surprised. The atmosphere at many Western universities towards the Church is one of virulent animosity, an atmosphere cultivated by faculties and administration.
