Pope encourages Kurdish leadership on religious tolerance
CWN - February 25, 2011
Pope Benedict XVI met on February 24 with the political leaders of Iraq’s northern Kurdish region, and encouraged them to continue promoting religious tolerance.
Kurdish President Massoud Barzani provided the Pontiff with a briefing on the situation facing Christians in Iraq, the Kurdish delegation reported. Iraq’s Christian population has traditionally been heaviest in the north of the country, extending into the Kurdish region.
