The House Energy and Commerce Committee has approved the Protect Life Act (HR 358) in a 33-19 vote. The measure, which awaits a vote in the full House of Representatives, would remove the possibility of abortion funding from, and add conscience protection to, the health-care reform legislation approved last year.
“The committee’s action is an important step toward authentic health care reform that respects the dignity of all, from conception onward,” said Deirdre McQuade of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
