Two more Cuban dissidents to be released, cardinal announces

February 04, 2011

Cardinal Jaime Ortega Alamino of Havana has announced that two more Cuban political dissidents will soon be released.

Cardinal Ortega, who has been instrumental in arranging the release of dozens of dissidents, identified the two prisoners as Angel Moya and Guido Sigler. He did not say exactly when the two will be released.

The two men were among 52 imprisoned dissidents whose release Church leaders negotiated last year. But 11 of those prisoners refused to accept exile in Spain and instead remained in prison. Moya and Sigler have now been told that they will be able to remain in Cuba or travel to the US.
