Beatification cause begun for nun who restored Blessed Mother’s house

CWN - January 27, 2011

Bishop Robert Finn of Kansas City - St. Joseph has begun the cause of beatification of Sister Marie de Mandat-Grancey (1837), a French nun who acquired and restored what is traditionally believed to be the home of the Blessed Mother and St. John the Apostle in Ephesus (near Izmir, Turkey). Popes Paul VI, John Paul II, and Benedict XVI have made pilgrimages to the site.

Archbishop Ruggero Franceschini of Izmir asked Bishop Finn to undertake the cause because of the Church’s scarcity of resources in Turkey.
