Pakistan: bishops declare day of prayer, fasting
CWN - January 26, 2011
The bishops of Pakistan have declared Sunday a day of prayer and fasting for peace in the troubled nation.
Pakistan “is tense at every level: poverty afflicts large parts of the population; fanaticism is gaining ground; both political parties [ruling and the opposition] seem more concerned with their own interests than the good of the community … [and] Christian minorities suffer from discrimination and marginalization,” said Father John Shakir Nadeem of the bishops’ conference.
