Canadian archdiocese probes $500,000 in missing funds
CWN - January 25, 2011
The Archdiocese of St. John’s, Newfoundland, is investigating the reported misappropriation of $500,000 from archdiocesan pension funds.
The archdiocese has asked local police to investigate the missing funds, after finding “significant discrepancies” in financial accounts. Archbishop Martin Currie reports that a preliminary investigation has indicated that an individual made illicit payments from pension funds to his own personal accounts. The archdiocese has indicated that it will aggressively seek the restoration of the missing funds.
