Pope Benedict XVI met on January 17 with Irina Bokova, the director-general of the UN’s Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The conversation, according to a brief Vatican statement released after the meeting, revolved around educational and cultural issues, and “the importance of guaranteeing quality education for everyone.” The UNESCO head met separately with Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Secretary of State, and Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, the Secretary for Relations with States.
