Pope encourages Haitian rebuilding effort
CWN - January 12, 2011
In a message to the people of earthquake-ravaged Haiti, Pope Benedict XVI said: “The time has come to rebuild, not only material structures but, and above all, civil, social and religious coexistence.”
The papal message was read by Cardinal Robert Sarah, the president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, at a Mass marking the 1st anniversary of the earthquake that devastated the island nation. Cardinal Sarah is in Haiti as the Pope’s personal representative, bringing aid to a country still struggling to rebuild while fighting epidemics that rose from unsanitary conditions after the earthquake.
