Pope met with Baghdad church massacre survivors

December 03, 2010

Pope Benedict XVI met with a group of 27 Iraqi Catholics who had survived the October 31 massacre in Baghdad’s church of Our Lady of Salvation.

The Iraqi Christians had traveled to Rome for medical treatment at the Gemelli Hospital, thanks for the support of the Italian government. After meeting with the Pope, they also spoke with Archbishop Fernando Filoni, the former apostolic nuncio in Iraq, who now serves as the deputy Secretariat of State.
