Indian nun identifies ringleader of rapist gang

CWN - November 03, 2010

The Indian nun who was sexually assaulted during a spate of anti-Christian violence in Orissa in 2008 has identified her main assailant during a trial.

Sister Meena Barwa identified Santosh Patnaik as the ringleader of a group of men who beat and stripped her, marched her around a village, and gang-raped her. She has now identified 5 of her attackers.

The trial of Sister Meena’s attackers was delayed, and eventually transferred to another venue, because Christian witnesses, including the victim, were afraid of further violence in Orissa’s Kandhamal district.
