Fides presents numerous Church statistics

Catholic World News - October 21, 2010

In preparation for World Mission Sunday, the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples’ Fides news agency is offering a statistical picture of the Church, with a breakdown of statistics by continent. (“America” in the statistics represents the combined total of North and South America.)

Although the Vatican published these statistics earlier this year, the Fides presentation is particularly helpful because it shows growth and decline on the various continents compared to the previous year. Thus one can clearly see that the number of major seminarians worldwide increased by 1,105 over the previous year, with most of the gain achieved in Asia and Africa.
