Moscow blocks Orthodox agreement on papal primacy

Although the Russian Orthodox hierarchy has shown a very friendly attitude toward Pope Benedict XVI, the Moscow patriarchate remains loath to recognize any papal authority over the Eastern churches. Vatican-watcher Sandro Magister sees the Russian resistance as the most important practical problem arising from a meeting of Catholic and Orthodox theologians.
