True love leads to true happiness, Pope tells Sunday audience
September 27, 2010
Reflecting on the day’s Gospel reading, the parable of Dives and Lazarus, the Holy Father told his audience that “it is up to us to follow the path God has shown us in order to achieve life, and this path is love, understood not as an emotion but as service to others in the charity of Christ.”
The Pope called the attention of the Sunday audience to Monday’s feast of St. Vincent de Paul, and the 350th anniversary of his death. He cited that saint as an outstanding example of service to the Christ’s poor. He also mentioned Blessed Chiara Badano, the Italian girl who had been beatified the previous day. Although she died of illness at the age of 19, the love that she radiated made her “a ray of light to everyone,” he said.
