Papal visit to Ireland possible for 2012?

Martin McGuinness, the deputy first minister of Northern Ireland, said that he did not travel to Scotland to meet with Pope Benedict XVI last week because the Pontiff was making a state visit to the United Kingdom, not to Ireland. McGuinness said that he would be delighted to meet with the Pope in Ireland, and revealed that he had “some grounds for believing that could happen as soon as 2012.”
