US bishops: ‘Strengthen and improve’ child, earned income tax credits

September 22, 2010

Bishop William Murphy, chairman of the Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, is urging Congress to “strengthen and improve” the child tax credit and earned income tax credit.

“We believe these essential programs assist workers and families raising children to provide the necessities of life,” Bishop Murphy writes. “Unless Congress acts, these vulnerable workers and their children will be left worse off than they are now.”

Enough! this is more command and control from the government. Rhe country's tax system is not a tool for social change. A good dose of subsidarity is what is needed. Socialism has failed to elevate anyone. It has only generated misery.
