Violent protests against Qu'ran desecration leave 14 dead in India's Kashmir
Catholic World News - September 13, 2010
The reports of desecration of Qu’ran in the US on September 11 have led to bloody protests in India, especially in the troubled Indian side of Kashmir, a region with a Muslim majority.
At least 14 people were killed, and 45 injured, in clashes between police and protesters in Kashmir on September 13. According to news reports, most of the casualties came when police fired into the crowd.
Kashmir has been witnessing violent protests for weeks, beginning with a spurt of street protests by Muslim mobs demanding secession from India and union with Pakistan.
