Assault on Filipino priest linked to development project

An armed assault on a Catholic priest in the Philippines was motivated by the cleric’s opposition to a major development project, an ecumenical group has charged. Father José Francisco Talaban was shaken by unharmed in June when unidentified gunmen fired shots into his rectory; the assailants left a message warning the priest to leave town.
