Kmiec, ambassador to Malta, in car crash; nun killed

Douglas Kmiec, whom President Barack Obama appointed ambassador to Malta in 2009, is in stable condition following an automobile accident in California. Kmiec underwent surgery after the car he was driving veered off the road into a ditch. A passenger, Sister Mary Campbell, 74, was killed in the crash; another passenger, 94-year-old Msgr. John Sheridan, is in critical condition.
