SSPX leader: no deal is imminent
August 26, 2010
The head of the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X (SSPX) has denied any knowledge of a forthcoming motu proprio that would regularize relations between the SSPX and the Holy See.
Bishop Bernard Fellay was commenting on a recent statement by another SSPX leader, Bishop Richard Williamson, who claimed that the motu proprio would seal a “political deal” between the Vatican and the SSPX leadership.
Bishop Fellay also denied Bishop Williamson’s claim that doctrinal discussions between SSPX and Vatican officials have run into a “doctrinal brick wall.” The SSPX superior said that the discussions have been friendly and fruitful. CWN sources confirm that the Vatican-SSPX talks are regarded by both sides as fruitful.
