Mexican cardinals back debate on drug legalization

Two of Mexico’s cardinals-- Cardinal Norberto Rivera Carrera of Mexico City and Cardinal Juan Sandoval Iniguez of Guadalajara-- have expressed support for President Felipe Calderon’s proposal to begin a national debate on the legalization of drugs. The two prelates, as well as the president, made clear that they were not expressing support for drug legalization, but only for a debate on its merits.
