Ground Zero mosque plan compared with Auschwitz Carmelite convent

August 03, 2010

Muslims who are planning a mosque for the “Ground Zero” site of the World Trade Center bombing could learn from the example set by Pope John Paul II in his dealings with the Carmelite nuns at Auschwitz, argues William McGurn in the Wall Street Journal. Sometimes even when you’re motivated by the right intentions, and you have the legal right to do something, it’s still more prudent to realize how others will react. The problem with McGurn's comparison is that Muslims are not taught to turn the other cheek.
