English Church official: drop time limit for cases against clerical abusers
CWN - July 27, 2010
The head of child-protection efforts for the Catholic bishops of England and Wales has said that the Vatican should remove any statute of limitations for disciplinary action against priests who abuse children.
William Kilgallon, the chair of the National Catholic Safeguarding Commission, said that the Vatican’s recent move to extend the statute of limitations in such cases, from 10 to 20 years, was a step in the right direction, but not enough. “It is better than it was, but I would have preferred to see the removal of limits entirely,” Kilgallon said.
