Pope Benedict XVI will leave the Vatican for his summer stay at Castel Gandolfo on July 7, the Vatican press office has announced.
Leaving Rome on Wednesday, presumably after his regular midday audience, the Pope will begin his summer stay with a period of vacation. The papal household announced that the Pontiff will not hold Wednesday audiences during the July weeks of his stay at Castel Gandolfo. He will resume his weekly audiences on August 4.
Earlier this year the Vatican announced that the Pope had decided to forego his annual summer vacation in the Italian Alps, opting instead for a period of quiet rest at the apostolic palace south of Rome.
