WYD organizers receive papal encouragement

Pope Benedict XVI met with organizers of the World Youth Day 2011 celebration, which will take place in Madrid, and encouraged them to “continue to collaborate generously in this great initiative.”

At a July 2 private audience with the Spanish organizers— who were led by Madrid’s Cardinal Antonio Rouco Varela—the Pontiff said that expectations are high for the 2011 celebration. “There are many young people whose eyes are fixed on that beautiful city with the joyful expectation of meeting there, not many months from now,” he said.
