Philippine bishops oppose illegal organ trade

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines is supporting a proposal by the nation’s health minister to create a national organ donor registry. “This is in line with our goal to address the problem of kidney-selling, which is wrong,” said Bishop José Oliveros of Malolos, who added that foreigners are traveling to remote areas of the country to purchase kidneys from impoverished residents.
