New questions on tax funding for Planned Parenthood
CWN - June 22, 2010
A report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that Planned Parenthood Federation received about $1 billion in federal funds from 2002 to 2009. But PPFA audits account for only $657.1 million in expenditures on government programs, the Washington Times observes. The discrepancy between the two figures raises fresh questions about the level of government support for PPFA. To complicate those questions, PPFA reports having received $2.3 billion in government support. Although the GAO report included only federal grants-- not state and local funds-- the Times notes that it seems unlikely that federal funding would be less than half of all government support.
