English bishops release background primer for papal visit
CWN - June 16, 2010
The Catholic bishops of England and Wales have issued a 32-page booklet providing background information on the September 2010 visit by Pope Benedict XVI.
The booklet, which will be distributed to journalists and public officials as well as to Catholic parishes, offers information on the scheduled stops on the papal itinerary, the case for beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman, and the history of Vatican relations with Great Britain. In introducing the booklet, the bishops’ conference explained that it should help to move discussion of the papal visit beyond the “current controversies” that have dogged public conversation about Catholicism in recent weeks.
