Vatican, Israel continue talks toward overdue pact

Diplomatic representatives of Israel and the Holy See met last week to continue discussions toward the completion of a juridical-economic pact, to fulfill the terms of the "fundamental agreement" that led to Vatican recognition of Israel in 1993. The marathon negotiations-- which were stalled for nearly a decade before resuming in 2004-- will continue in June.
