New lawsuit involving notorious abuser Lavigne

May 20, 2010

A 47-year-old mechanical engineer has filed suit against retired Bishops Joseph Maguire and Thomas Dupre of Springfield (Massachusetts), alleging that they failed to provide adequate supervision to notorious abuser Richard Lavigne, a diocesan priest who was laicized in 2004. Bishop Dupre himself has been indicted for abusing two boys.

The engineer asserts that he was abused by Lavigne when he was 12 and 13 but that his memory of the incidents was repressed until 2009.
