Church in Middle East need saints, martyrs, says former Patriarch of Jerusalem

The Church in the Middle East needs the heroic witness of saints, the retired Latin-rite Patriarch of Jerusalem told a conference in Lebanon.

Archbishop Michel Sabbah, looking forward to the Synod on the Middle East, said that Christians be prepared for martyrdom, "after doing all that is humanly possible," to preserve the Christian presence in the region.
