Italian Church leaders will cooperate with abuse investigations

The Italian bishops' conference has promised full cooperation with law-enforcement officials investigating charges of sexual abuse by Catholic priests. The bishops issued a statement emphasizing that while the canonical investigation of such complaints is confidential, they "do not oppose the state authorities whose task it is to investigate the substance of allegations, but rather support those authorities through faithful cooperation."
