Famed exorcist says ‘legions of demons’ have lodged at Vatican

March 16, 2010

Don Gabriele Amorth, the chief exorcist of the Diocese of Rome, told The London Times in a recent interview that “legions of demons” have lodged at the Vatican but then appeared to downplay his remarks.

“Legions of demons have lodged there,” he said. “The majority of those in the Vatican do good work. But Pope Paul VI talked about the ‘smoke of Satan’ infiltrating the Vatican as long ago as 1972. Satan sets out to damage the leadership of the Church-- and of politics, industry and sport, for that matter.”

Father Amorth also described extraordinary phenomena associated with exorcisms, including the vomiting of nails and glass by the possessed. ““You get used to being vomited over,” he said. “I once performed an exorcism on a woman who managed to hit me in the face with a stream of vomit from the other side of the room-- physically impossible.”

If demonic spirits revaled Satanic cults inside the Vatican, you could conceivably take two approaches: the demons are liars so why believe them about cults? Or they are telling the truth. Do they always lie in cases of possession? Exorcists are in a better position to determine that based on their experiences. Given the vision of Leo XIII and the genesis of the Leonine prayers and the remarks of Paul VI,satanic cults afflicting the Holy See would not surprise me.
